OUR history

1991

Rafael Aguirre Gomez creates MERA Corporation with the acquisition of the American franchise “Pat O’ Brien’s”.

1997

MERA Corporation obtains the world´s second international franchise for “Outback Steakhouse” to open in Cancun.

1999

Competing with some of the biggest companies in the industry, we win our first food and beverage concession at the international airports of Cancún, Mérida and Cozumel.

2002

Opening of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville for the first time in Cancun.

2005

“Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.”, inspired in the Forest Gump movie, open its doors for the people of Cancun.

2007

Opening of 12 restaurants at the new Terminal 3 of Cancún Airport, Margaritaville in Cozumel and Bubba Gump in Puerto Vallarta.

2008

Three Amigos Cantina opens its doors at the Carnival Puerta Maya Cozumel, one of the main Cruise Ports in the country.

2009

Opening of 4 locations at the food court at Toluca airport.

2011

Opening of new food court with 6 locations at Guadalajara international Airport.

2013

After winning the master concession for Quito International Airport, we begin our first international experience. Opening of Cancun airport´s terminal 1.

2014

Opening of 3 food court locations and 1 full service restaurant in Puerto Vallarta international airport.

2015

After winning another bid for Guadalajara’s international airport, we opens 5 new restaurants in the international area. During this year, we also started operations for Guanajuato’s Airport.Guanajuato’s Airport.

2016

Guy Fieri’s Kitchen + Bar open its doors in Playa del Carmen’s 5th avenue.

2017

MERA started operations in Burbank California’s international airport as well as opening 19 restaurants in Cancun’s new terminal 4, including the first Panda Express franchise in a Mexican airport.

2018

Zona R is opened in the international hall at El Dorado’s airport in Bogota, Colombia, with 5 restaurants including the first franchise of the Vives brothers.
