Wolfgang Johannes Puck was born on 8 July 1949 in Sankt Veit an der Glan, Austria.

Wolfgang became interested in gastronomy under the influence of his mother, who worked as a cook at a tourist resort. At the age of 14 he left home to work in hotel kitchens, where he learned the basics, and then emigrated to France as an apprentice in the following restaurants: L'Oustau de Baumanière, under chef Raymond Thuilier; the Hotel de Paris in Monaco, and the Maxim's in Paris.

Puck emigrated to the United States in 1973, when he was 24 years old, and after a brief residence in Indianapolis he settled permanently in Los Angeles. In 1975, entrepreneur Patrick Terrail, owner of the luxury restaurant Ma Maison in Beverly Hills, came across him through common friends and hired him as executive chef. Puck worked at Ma Maison until 1981 when his wife Barbara Lazaroff opened the restaurant Spago on the Sunset Strip a year later. Spago is based in Californian gastronomy, the chef included innovations like pizzas with gourmet ingredients. Following his success at Spago, Puck became one of the first celebrated chefs in the United States. In addition to opening restaurants in other cities in the country, he has been the chef of the Oscar banquet feast for more than 20 years. Puck's business is divided into three subsidiaries: Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group, which comprises all luxury restaurants; Wolfgang Puck Catering, catering service, and Wolfgang Puck Worldwide, with all other establishments. The chef's most famous restaurants are Spago (Beverly Hills, two Michelin stars), Chinois on Main (Santa Monica), Postrio (Las Vegas and San Francisco) and CUT Beverly Hills (a Michelin star).
MERA and Wolfgang Puck opened The Kitchen Counter Cancun and The Marketplace Cancun in Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 at the Cancun International Airport in early 2016. Months later two more Kitchen Counter opened inside the airport.”
