Federal ruling protects Uber drivers at airports, yet assaults persist
Despite the final injunction granted in favor of Uber on October 3 by federal judge Blanca Alicia Ochoa Hernández, which declares it illegal for the National Guard to detain platform drivers for picking up or dropping off passengers at airports, drivers in Cancún claim that the harassment persists.
Incidents of violence have been documented and shared on social media, where physical and verbal assaults by taxi drivers against Uber drivers have created an atmosphere of fear and hostility among tourists and platform operators.
The nationwide ruling establishes that picking up or dropping off passengers does not constitute an infraction and does not justify vehicle detention or confiscation, allowing Uber drivers to operate freely in more than 70 airport terminals across the country.
The company remains confident that the judicial resolution will be definitively upheld and help improve airport transportation logistics, especially in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
