With the goal of boosting greater economic impact, Governor Mara Lezama has launched innovative actions that directly benefit the fishing communities of Quintana Roo. One of them is the “Governor’s Cup,” the first sport fishing tournament that will take place on November 29 in Punta Herrero, in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

This event is part of the initiatives of the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, whose purpose is to promote inclusion and citizen participation in projects that positively transform the state.

Additionally, the Governor’s Cup has already received an invitation from the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE) to participate in a sport fishing tournament in Panama. This invitation opens the door to new sustainable business models, since contrary to popular belief, in sport fishing the species are measured and released, encouraging environmentally responsible practices and creating new opportunities for local fishers.
