In a major step toward improving educational infrastructure in Quintana Roo, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa led the inauguration of a brand-new sports and cultural dome at the “Amado Nervo” elementary school in Cancun. This long-awaited project brings a permanent solution to a school community that had spent nearly two decades without proper shelter from the elements.

A Strategic Investment in Student Well-being

With an investment of 3.3 million pesos, this 500-square-meter structure was designed to provide a safe and functional environment for over 1,000 students. This new space ensures that physical education, civic ceremonies, and recreational activities can take place regardless of the intense sun or heavy rains typical of the Mexican Caribbean.

“Guaranteeing dignified spaces is essential for the integral development of our children,” the Governor stated during the ceremony, emphasizing that these resources are a direct investment back into the community to foster growth and education.

More Than Infrastructure: A Message of Peace and Future

Beyond the construction itself, the event was marked by a festive atmosphere where Mara Lezama engaged in a heartfelt conversation with the students. Her message focused on building a better society through healthy habits and peace:

  • Promoting Peace: She urged the youth to reject the normalization of violence and steer clear of destructive behaviors.
  • Mental Agility: The Governor encouraged games and activities that sharpen the mind and foster healthy social interaction.
  • Emotional Health: Her central advice to the students was moving: “I want you to be happy and spread your wings in an environment of total well-being.”

A Statewide Goal for Education

The new dome at the “Amado Nervo” school is part of a broader, ambitious plan by the state government. The administration has set a goal to equip 1,109 schools across Quintana Roo with similar structures, ensuring that no student in the state has to study or play in inadequate conditions.

Key officials, including Verónica Lezama (DIF System), José Rafael Lara Díaz (SEOP), and local municipal authorities, joined the Governor to reaffirm their commitment to the educational transformation of the Northern Zone.
