Playa del Carmen firmly opposes the recent rate increase for local parking meters. Municipal authorities officially expressed their total rejection of this financial measure. Currently, the local government aims to protect the pockets of both residents and tourists visiting the region.
The concessionaire company must absorb the costs
The city council stated that any technological updates or system modernizations must be funded privately. According to the official stance, the concessionaire company is completely required to absorb these investments. For this reason, the municipal government demands that no new economic charges be transferred to service users.
Furthermore, local officials explained that the current infrastructure generates enough revenue for its own maintenance. Citizens already pay an established fee to use the regulated parking spaces. Therefore, a rate increase remains unjustified under current economic conditions.
Protecting the community’s economy
This public positioning arises following rumors about a supposed payment restructuring in the downtown area. Nevertheless, the municipal council maintains a strict policy of zero increases that harm the community.
Finally, the transportation and urban development commissions will thoroughly review the concession contract clauses. The main goal will be to guarantee a fair and transparent service without financial abuses in the municipality of Solidaridad.
