Osiris Machado: A Story of Resilience
After earning a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the 21-year-old athlete from Nayarit went on to win the gold medal in the F44 discus throw.

What are the Paralympic Games?
The Paralympic Games are an adapted version of the Olympic Games for athletes with physical, visual, or intellectual disabilities.
With the goal of promoting inclusion and equal opportunities, the Paralympic Games are held every four years, right after the Olympics, in the same host city. They feature adapted disciplines such as athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball, blind football (5-a-side), goalball, and more.
This year, the championship took place in New Delhi, India. Osiris claimed the gold medal; American athlete Samantha Heyison won silver, and China’s Yao Juan took bronze.
Who is Osiris Machado?
The now Paralympic champion was born in Nayarit and became a victim of a car accident that caused permanent immobility in her right leg.
However, Osiris defied medical expectations and discovered the world of sports thanks to her sister. Ten years later, after relentless effort and dedication, she proudly represents Mexico and stands as a true symbol of courage and resilience.
The Mexican athlete not only claimed the top prize but also set a new championship record with a throw of 44.36 meters.
