Escuelas con Agua reached a historic milestone in our country. The initiative celebrated the inauguration of its 1,000th school in the State of Mexico. Currently, this national program seeks to guarantee access to water in public educational centers. Fundación Coca-Cola México and Bepensa lead this important social effort.
Bepensa’s impact in the Yucatan Peninsula
For the southeastern region, the progress is highly significant. Bepensa has contributed to the installation of 100 water systems in the Yucatan Peninsula. The equipment successfully operates in Yucatan, Campeche, and Quintana Roo. For this reason, thousands of local students now have safer and healthier environments.
The program implements Rainwater Harvesting Systems, known as SCALL. These structures collect water directly from school rooftops. Subsequently, the resource passes through specialized filters and is properly stored. Each system can harvest up to one million liters of rain annually.
Real benefits for the school community
Nationally, Escuelas con Agua benefits more than 347,000 people. Among them are students, teachers, and staff across 29 states. Additionally, the initiative includes educational workshops and environmental training for communities. Therefore, a culture of responsible water use is actively promoted.
In the Yucatan Peninsula, the local impact already shows strong numbers. The systems installed by Bepensa benefit around 25,950 people in the region. This equals the utilization of 1.73 million liters of rainwater. Thus, the continuity of classes and general campus hygiene are ensured.
