Somos México presented a disruptive proposal within the national political scene. The new political party announced an important reservation in its electoral lists. Specifically, the organization will grant 20% of its candidacies to various social collectives. Currently, this measure seeks to give a direct voice to historically vulnerable sectors.
Opportunities for search mothers and activists
The assigned candidacies will give priority to the country’s search mothers. Spaces will also open for human rights defenders, environmentalists, and young activists. For this reason, the party aims to stand out from traditional political forces. According to their statutes, nominations will be defined through rigorous, open citizen processes.
On the other hand, leadership faces its first legal challenge before electoral authorities. National leader Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo reported that they will appeal a recent resolution. The disagreement arises following the INE’s decision to modify the official name and logo. For the membership, this change harms the identity built by the organization.
Open processes and citizen participation
The party remains confident about reversing the electoral body’s order immediately. Nevertheless, local assemblies will continue to work regularly throughout the territory. The main commitment of the movement is to consolidate a platform for real democratic participation.
Finally, committees will evaluate the profiles of community activists over the coming weeks. The ultimate goal will be to build a legitimate electoral alternative ahead of the next elections.
